Film Emulation At It's Finest
I had been following VSCO since they first introduced Film Pack 01, coveting it all the while. Somehow it just never seemed to make it into my budget. A few weeks ago I found myself with a small surplus and decided it was time to bite the bullet and buy the newly released Film Pack 02 for Lightroom 4. For those of you who don't know a film emulate simply recreates the look of various films and applies them to a digital photo. Sounds simplistic but I've tried various "Preset packs" and the like and never found anything id use for my personal photos let alone my professional work. But from what I had seen of VSCO's product I was very hopeful. I've never been a fan of overly processed looking photos, there are exceptions of course, but generally speaking I like my processing to be light, natural and elegant. For me VSCO's Film Pack 02 delivers exactly that. I get that vintage-esque look without compromising the photos timeless qualities. Not only do you get cornucopia of film choices but the toolset is quite useful in fine tuning each photo to get the exact look you're seeking. If you like the look of film but love the creative flexibility of digital, I highly recommend VSCO's Products.
My Favorite Films so far have been Kodak Porta 400VC and Fuji Neopan 1600 Here are a few samples of my photos using these and other emulations.
